I'm single work out of my apt selling software, so all I need is internet and a phone so I can call my customers in the US. California taxes are crazy and I like to scuba dive in warm water. What is your fee? It's the only place right over the water-- it's grandfathered. The place is beautiful. They do lobster, fish, chicken and burgers so far, with more being added to the menu. They grill s and use nice sauces. They have a bar too. I thought the staff were wonderful, and the owner, a local young man, is bright and really friendly. I really loved it and I'll go back. They do drummers... And they don't play too loud.

Re: LIVING IN BELIZE – “The Long Drive to Corozal“ 9/13/12

Hi Sharon, are you still in Belize ? I live in Belize City and hate to see all those dogs roaming the streets. Many are "pets" and have known owners, but come and go as they please :(
I have two dogs of my own and I am so worried about their health knowing what those dogs out there have or may have and pass it on to my pets.
Belize has a long way to go until a dog is called a pet in the true meaning of the word! And cats.... it's even worst with them.

Re: LIVING IN BELIZE – “The Uniform Notarial Acts Treaty”– 5/31/12

Great, except that Justice of the Peace should not be charging to sign or stamp anything.

Re: 3 Main Concerns of Relocating to Belize

Hi Sharon! So glad to have found your page. My husband and I have been throwing around getting out of the states with our two boys (7 and 9). After doing a lot of research about the job market (we are both teachers) we are thinking we may just take a leave of absence for a year and come down to Belize and check things out. I know we can only stay for 6 months as tourists. Do you have any information about the music scene in Belize? My husband is also a musician/producer/engineer. Maybe we could start up a business doing something in the music scene???

Re: 3 Main Concerns of Relocating to Belize

Hi Sharon,
This is my first, conversation.
I am indian origin working in oil reach gulf and now I am looking for my rest of life settlement in Belize,
Like Panama, is any programme that while investing some money or puchasing land can we get residential permit? belize passport?
If yes then pleae guide me how much and what is that programme.
Your positive reply is highly appreciated by lost of my indian friends in gulf.
Regards,
Hitesh Desai

Re: 3 Main Concerns of Relocating to Belize

Hi Sharon
Thank you so much for creating this blog. I appreciate the fact information is coming from a real person living in Belize and it it' unbiased info.
my concerns are quite a few, by my main concern is the stability of the country...interns of property purchased and safety of funds In the bank. Would you deposited $25,000.00 in a Belizian Bank?
There is also my concern about communication technology. I need the Internet to thoroughly reliable and efficient. I rely heavily on the Internet for keeping track 0f personal and family business.
Then there the Mosquitos, that have already eaten me up all over.

Re: LIVING IN BELIZE – “Guatemala Dentist Trip“ 8/30/12

What is the phone Number for the Place

Re: 3 Main Concerns of Relocating to Belize

Hi Carl! Yes, I'm still here - in Placencia now - but will be returning to the States soon only because I have some health issues that can't be solved here, and as it turns out, I'm not much of a small town girl. But yes, you can live quite comfortably, especially on the mainland, for $2000 usd/month. If you're considering the islands, you'd probably need all of that $3000. Good luck on whatever you decide, and be sure to make a research trip or two before committing to the move. How are you doing? I've look and dreamed about moving to get away from the cold and having to work the rest of my life. At 70 years old I still need to work at least 30 hours a week just to have any extra cash. My SS is about 2,100 per Mo and my wife about 1,000 In US $. would we be able to live OK there or would there still be a struggle.
Thanks Carl

Re: Leaving Belize

I know how you feel. A good vet would always be welcome in Belize. Animals lives are tough here, unless they have really good owners who can afford to take care of them. You'd have to obtain a self-employed work permit and the town council approval (about $2000 usd) to get started doing something like that in Belize, but I think there are several communities this could really benefit. Come here for a research trip and check it out first though. Take care. You cannot get a job in Belize without an employer sponsoring you on a work permit (which you pay about $2000 usd to obtain). The employer first must demonstrate, however, that they've exhausted all attempts to find a qualified Belizean to fill the position first, which in some professions, is harder to do than others. Most foreigners in Belize choose to go a different route and start our own businesses, as getting a self-employed work permit is much easier.

If you're still persuaded to attempt employment in the medical field given these facts, there are only a handful of hospitals in the country, so it shouldn't be too hard to make inquiries.

Re: 3 Main Concerns of Relocating to Belize

I'm a LPN.
